Iron Man’s MCU Comeback : Robert Downey Jr. Approved

Robert Downey Jr Iron Man

Should Iron Man make a comeback in the MCU? A recent report claims that Robert Downey Jr. has already committed to making a comeback.

The multiverse’s appearance, both on and off screen, has shattered the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The franchise appears to have had difficulty living up to the enormous expectations of fans, which peaked at the end of the Infinity Saga, since Avengers: Endgame. Now, a fresh rumour suggests that Iron Man, played by Robert Downey Jr., might be poised to return, one of their most prized lost assets.

It seems like every day there are wild speculations on the internet about what might happen next in the biggest film franchise ever. This includes the debut of lesser-known characters, fresh crossovers, and the long-elusive casting confirmation for the Fantastic Four. There are rumours that seem to link with more official stories sometimes, even if it might be difficult to tell the real story from the fan fiction. One such rumour is that Robert Downey Jr. will be returning to the MCU as Iron Man.

According to a message on X (previously Twitter) that internet leaker MyTimeToShineHello posted, Downey Jr. has already agreed to rejoin the MCU for a new project. The assertion follows closely on the heels of a thorough article by Variety that hinted to the reunion of the original Avengers squad. However, it does not elaborate on whether this will be as an Iron Man version or as his original character in a story that takes place in a branched multiverse reality.

Will the Original Avengers Return to the MCU?

Avengers Team

Variety Publish a report last week that described the present situation at Marvel Studios. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is facing numerous challenges at the moment, but they are by no means a failure. These challenges range from overworked visual effects artists to poor box office performance. Nonetheless, it is evident that many people think something is wrong with the superhero genre because The Marvels is expected to be among the lowest grossing films in the entire series.

According to Variety’s claim, “talks” have reportedly been held about reuniting the Avengers, who revolutionised the superhero movie genre back in 2012. According to the report:

“Sources say there have been talks to bring back the original gang for an “Avengers” movie. This would include reviving Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man and Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow, both of whom were killed off in “Endgame.” (That shouldn’t be a stumbling block — in comic books, beloved characters are often killed off, only to be resurrected thanks to the power of things like the multiverse.)”

To be sure, this is all speculative and should be treated with a grain of salt until further notice from Marvel Studios. That being said, there’s no reason why the MCU couldn’t accomplish this—as Variety’s report notes, the comic book industry is known for continuously reimagining its own histories and character lines. When it comes to the Batman reboots, Warner Bros. has been doing this for years.

The Marvels, which is releasing this Friday, is what fans of Marvel who are still interested in the current brand can look forward to. The return of Captain Marvel has a trailer, which you can see below.
