Sherika De Armas, who represented Uruguay in the 2015 Miss World pageant, passed away from cervical cancer at the young age of 26. She has been fighting the illness for the past two years with chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Her brother Mayk’ De Armas bid her farewell on social media, writing, “Fly high, little sister. Always and forever.
The current beauty queen, Miss Uruguay Carla Romero, expressed her sorrow and called Armas “one of the most beautiful women” she had ever come across.
Armas was one of just six 18-year-old contestants in the 2015 Miss World pageant, but she was unable to get in the top 30. She expressed her goals at the time in an interview, saying, “I always wanted to be a model, whether a beauty model, an advertising model, or a catwalk model.” She highlighted the difficulties and experiences the pageant brought up as she acknowledged her joy at participating.
Armas ran the Shey De Armas Beauty Studio, a store where she offered beauty, hair, and personal care items in addition to her modelling endeavours.
What Is Cervical Cancer? An Overview
The formation of abnormal cells in the cervix, the lower portion of the uterus related to the genitals, is where cervical cancer develops. The human papillomavirus (HPV) is recognised to play a key role in the majority of cervical cancer cases.
The Centres for Disease Control and Prevention report that those over the age of 30 are most frequently affected by this type of cancer. Effective preventive methods against this disease include routine screenings and the HPV vaccine.
